Experience

I have been a tour guide in Toulouse for nearly 10 years before moving to the UK, but a piece of my heart stayed there and I am very attached to my home town. In its history, Toulouse has seen a lot of Spanish coming to the city to flee from the civil war. It is only normal that it became the most Spanish city in France. You can find this very special atmosphere in the relaxed and easy going attitude of its inhabitants, their warm welcomes, as well as the wonderful tapas bars. Along the way, you will get to see the most beautiful sights the “pink city” has to offer, such as the St Stephen Cathedral, the cutest squares, the Carmes area, Place St Pierre and wonderful views on the River Garonne when you cross the Pont Neuf. I have included some of the most famous tapas bars in town that have been here for years, as well as some trendy new bars

Route

Le Saint Jerome

Le Saint Jerome offers classic Spanish tapas as well as a selection of local cheeses and foie gras.

El Abanico

Located in the beautiful area of Les Carmes, where you can see some of the most beautiful example of Renaissance palaces, you will find El Abanico, a hidden gem only known to locals or Spanish residents in Toulouse.

Boca

A few minutes away from the Capitole or the Pont Neuf, must see in Toulouse, you will find Boca, this typical Spanish tapas bar, where you can taste hundreds of mini sandwiches to quench your hunger.

Vasco Le Gamma

Cross the river Garonne to enjoy sea food tapas as well as the most classic ones, in the very laid back atmosphere of the St Cyprien area.

La Tantina de Burgos

This typical Spanish bodega will not only make you want to eat all their tapas on their big tables, but you will most definitely want to dance in this very warm and sociable atmosphere.

Practicalities

  • Come hungry!
  • Best to start around 5pm so you get to spend quality time in all the bars/restaurants
  • Ideal in summer when you can enjoy having your food and drinks on the terraces, but can do all year long
  • Don’t forget to book, some places are small and can be crowded

Uptaste

What is Uptaste? We’re something like a travel agency business (although we don’t sell flights or hotels). Instead, we specialise in finding the right place to eat, wherever and whenever you are, using location intelligence combined with expert and community curation. Uptaste destinations will rarely be restaurants; they’ll be shops, they’ll be street traders, they’ll be local markets, or some other easy-to-miss but hard-to-forget place.
