So dust off your cameras and get ready to take some great pictures. Start at Notting Hill Gate Tube Station and visit The Churchill Arms to take a photo of its lush exterior. Work your way through the streets of Notting Hill, snapping photos of colourful houses, pastel facades and quirky cafés before diving down Portobello Road Escape the hustle and bustle of Portobello Road and head west, visiting a Gothic-style church before turning back, walking past more beautiful and colourful houses before visiting the site of a famous scene from Love Actually. Finish your tour with your memory card full at Ladbroke Grove Tube Station.

The Churchill Arms

Built in 1750, the Church-on-the-Hill Arms was renamed after the Second World War after Prime Minister Winston Churchill. Because of its flower-decked exterior, it’s know as one of London’s most colourful pubs, and is one of the best places in Notting Hill to snap a great photo.

Hillgate Place

Hillgate Place is a treasure trove surrounded by more colourful streets. Take photos of the beautiful pastel houses and admire all the colours of the rainbow.

Stanley Gardens

This quiet street is home to colourful doors and beautiful white Georgian houses.

Rosmead Road

A beautiful street bordering private communal gardens that featured in the movie ‘Notting Hill.’ Anna and William broke into one of these communal gardens at night - but don’t do it yourself.

Elgin Crescent

Elgin Crescent is easily one of the most photogenic areas of Notting Hill. These multi-coloured homes are perfect for colourful photos.

Alice’s has been a staple of Portobello Road since 1887 and sells all manner of eclectic furnishings, china, curios, and toys.

Chepstow Villas

A stone’s throw away from Portobello Road are the beautiful pastel-coloured houses of Chepstow Villas.

Westbourne Grove Church

A Gothic-style church and the ldest congregation in Notting Hill, formed in 1823. The gorgeous architecture is perfect for a picturesque London photo.

Colville Houses

Colville Terrace is lined by colourful and pretty facades, perfect for photos.

St Luke’s Mews

St Luke’s Mews is often considered to be the prettiest mews in London. Mews were originally stables for horses topped by accomodation for servants, typically built in the 18th and 19th centuries. The pink house here was also featured in Love Actually.

Practicalities

  • Remember that people do live in Notting Hill so please be considerate when taking photos.
  • If you are using a DSLR, some useful basic settings for street photography are as follows. Set your aperture to f/8, do not go lower than 1/125 on your shutter speed, and keep the ISO low! However, do find what works for you based on the lighting and remember that each setting affects the other.
