Experience

Start your Trier tour at the old roman entrance of the city, called the Porta Nigra. Built in 170 AD, today it’s one of the town’s iconic landmarks. After that, we will visit the museum of Simeonstift. Next, visit Coffee Fellows. There, grab some drinks and something to eat for the palace gardens later on. Take a walk through the city and enjoy the beautiful architecture. Visit the basilica of Constantine, another Roman structure built between 308 - 337 AD. Then, journey to the Electoral Palace and head to the garden to sit down, relax, and eat your food.

Route

The Porta Nigra

The city gate was built around the year 180 AD. Weathering has given the light brown sandstone a dark colour. This is why people have spoken of the Porta Nigra since the Middle Ages. This is Latin and means “black gate".

The Museum of Simeonstift

The collection is incredibly diverse, featuring paintings, sculptures, arts and crafts, Coptic textiles, furniture, and small East Asian sculptures.

Coffee Fellows Trier

True to the motto “Feel at Home”, the Coffee Fellows team welcomes everyone with their specialty coffee, fresh bagels, and snacks. Vegetarians, vegans or tea drinkers are not left out either.

The Basilica of Constantine

The Basilica was built as an audience hall for the Roman emperors who resided in the city in the 4th century. In the early Middle Ages, the burnt-out ruin came into the possession of the Trier bishops.

The Electoral Palace

As electors, the prince-bishops governed the Electorate of Trier and presided over the Archbishopric of Trier as archbishops. It’s also been used as a barracks by both French and Prussian troops.

The Palace garden

The palace garden is a popular recreational and excursion destination in Trier. The garden was laid out in the 1930s in the style of a French garden and is freely accessible.
